KLMBH Epic 2010

Tarikh : 27th Jun 2010


Seminggu sebelum ride ~ dah rasa 50/50 . . . dont know why ? Ada yg tak kena pd bike aku ni. Dah dua kali bawa masuk offroad tapi rasa tak selesa . . . ? ? ?

Nak bawa hardtail, kawan2 bawa fullsus~ hurmmmm :- (

Tapi dah janji ~ ride juga. Bermalam di Kuala Kubu Baru dgn Malek KOTRT. Hujan lebat sebelah malam . . . trail utk esok mesti 'hancus' !

Pagi 27th Jun ~ cuaca nampak terang. Riders telah dimaklum mengenai trail yg becak, agar lebih berhati2 pada tempat yg agak technical.

Pertama kali berjumpa dgn KayuhBeb and d' gang. Sebelum ini hanya chat/phone shja dgn Kulat Yusof. Tak sempat berbual lama dgn dia orang @ KayuhBeb.
Masing2 prepare utk pelepasan.
BTW ~ "nice meeting u all" ~ Jumpa lagi !

Tak pernah aku rasa 'moody' kayuh pagi ini ? Dah tekad utk 'relax & easy ride' sahaja.

'ikut sampai hujung'

Climb yg pertama dah ada riders yg jatuh dan DH yg pertama juga hampir 4 orang sebelum aku dah 'tergolek dog'. Rakan, Sani KOTRT jatuh depan aku semasa DH ditempat yg sama. Dilokasi pertama 'peluh belum keluar' dah sibuk membantu 3 riders yg jatuh. Boleh tahan juga luka pada lengan dan kaki mereka (termasuk Sani). Tak sampai hati nak ambil gambar dia orang.

Kali ini aku banyak 'tolak' dari ride. Rasa2 4 ke 5 km 'tolak & buang lumpur' shja.
Tayar basikal dah jadi 'donuts'

Selepas 'climb yg panjang dlm lumpur' baru jumpa sungai ini.


Tak laa dalam sangat . . . . . ?
Selepas jer 'cross' sungai ini aku dah tak ada mood utk meneruskan kayuhan . . .

Note & Morals :
  • Pertama kali aku 'melarikan diri' dari Ride !
  • Entah ~ rasa 'moody' dari awal sebelum kayuh bertukar menjadi 'fed up'.
  • Kalau dah dari awal rasa 50/50 ~ Better don't Go !

B'fast d' SP ~ Lunch d' Betong ~ Hujan d' Baling

Date: 23rd Jun 2010

Route : 'Breakfast Ride'

Distance : 95km

Aim : Base Ride & Best BP


Masa nak keluar rumah langit nampak gelap . . . so, plan nak kayuh sp ~ baling ~ sp terpaksa diubah. Bawa kereta & parking kat Masjid Tawar.

Dah berminggu basikal nii dok terperosok kat rumah ~ bersawang. Beberapa xtvt basikal terpaksa batalkan. Musim buah & kenduri kawin pada tiap hujung minggu buat BP aku tak berapa comey . . . risau juga kalau dibiarkan. Sebelum nii ride offroad di Penang dan Gurun dgn fullsus rasa 'tak puas'. Dah berbulan aku tak ride dgn fullsus niii . . . rasa macam tak kena ajer . . . hurmmmmm entah ? Tapi bila ride dgn hardtail Ok pula.

Ketagih Long Distance ?

Hari ini Plan utk 'base ride' ajer ikut laluan Tawar - Baling - Kupang (MRSM) - Tawar. Tapi bila sampai Baling terserempak dgn Tn Fazil, Farhoud, Yuih lain jadinyer. Alamak ~ tak sempat nak minum2 kat Baling Tn Fazil ajak aku "Ly, kita minum kat Pangkalan Hulu" . . . adehhhhh (Gunung Inas).

Nak ambil hati kawan2 ~ aku ikut dia orang slow slow ragaih Gunung Inas. Sampai di Pangkalan Hulu dah jadi lain . . ."lama tak kena sup daging Restoran Hj Nan di Betong Thailand" ~ aduhhhhhhh ! Laluan kayuhan sekali lagi berubah . . . he he he !

Di Betong Thailand tak lama, lepas makan 'chau'. Dah nampak cuaca tak berapa comey.

So, aku ride balik melalui G Inas - Baling - Tawar.

Stop di Baling minum air tebu bersama 'papaRazif', pun tak lama terus ride utk kejar masa. Kita hanya merancang . . . tak sampai 20 min. hujan lebat . . .

Tak ada pilihan selepas 20 min tak reda . . . terpaksa redah dlm hujan utk kejar masa ke Masjid Tawar.

Terima kasih pd Tn Fazil, Farhoud, Yuih kerana 'menukar laluan' kayuhan aku dan terima kasih juga pada 'papaRazif' kerana dapat 'rakam aksi lucah' dari belakang . . . . he he he !


Dan yg paling best . . . target utk dapatkan best BP tercapai.

Tentative Ride !

Laluan 'simpul biawak' : Baling - Kupang - Gerik - P. Hulu - Baling

Jarak : 110km+

Mula/Tamat : Baling

Nota :

1. Atas permintaan rakan2 'mountie' , kayuhan ini diadakan 'Khas Untuk MTB'ers' road ride ke Gerik, Perak.

2. Amat berharap xtvt ini dapat mengumpul semula rakan2 'mountie' dari SP, Baling, KrohMTB, Perlis, Alor Star & Jitra aka Redflag, Perwaja MTB Club, Anak Siong and d' gang, RCT, rakan dari Manjung Perak aka MCT. Jika anda tidak ke mana2 ~ Join Us !

3. Hari tuu kita simpan laa sekejap RB ~ sama-sama kita 'rengkuh' MTB pula !

4. Bawa bekalan minuman & 'supplements' secukupnya. Kalau ada 'support car' dari group masing-masing lagi baguihhh ! Mana tau ~ kalau-kalau kena 'simpul biawak' sapa nak usung ?

My Bed Time Reading - "Drafting"

Steps :
  • Understand that aerodynamics is the key.
  • Tell the other people that you think you guys should draft. Arrange for who will go first, and how long each of the intervals will be.
  • Get into positions. The people after the leader should be straight behind him, and about 1-2 feet back so that if the leader makes any sudden turns or stops, the people behind him will have time to react. Another, more efficient position (i.e. it maximizes the effect of drafting), is to offset your front wheel from the leader's rear wheel by a few inches, but trail within 1 foot. For example, if there is a headwind, position your front wheel so that it slightly to the side of the leader's rear wheel, not directly behind it. In fact, the wheels may even 'overlap' by several inches (when observed from the side). The photo above shows this very technique - the second person is less than a foot behind the puller, but offset by several inches.
  • Switch. The puller (i.e. the person in front), will indicate that he/she will fall off, and then give one or two strong kicks to clear the pack (in case any followers overlap his/her rear wheel). Then s/he will veer sharply to the left or right, and then slow down or coast to the back of the pace line. The new puller should then resume at the same pace as before, or pick it up slightly.

Calls :

These are some calls you might hear. It is essential that you repeat them down the pack so everyone can hear:
  • "Car Up/Front/Back" : Keep tight to the cyclist next to you, and be prepared to cycle in single file
  • "Hole" : Upcoming pothole to avoid. This can also be followed by a direction i.e "HOLE LEFT".
  • "Slowing" : Usually accompanied by a hand signal. The cyclist in front needs to slow down for some reason.
  • "Stopping" : Brake !
  • "Wait" : Usually at junctions to indicate there is a car coming
  • "Clear" : To indicate that a junction is traffic free. You must check yourself and not rely on others.
  • "Heads Up" : Hazard ahead, pay attention.
  • "Single out/ single file" : Get into single file safely and promptly
Hand Signals :

It is essential that you repeat them so everyone can see and pass it on:

  • Single hand in the air (up or down) : Rider is signaling that he/she needs to stop or slow down. Usually followed by the call 'Slowing', 'Stopping'.
  • Pointing down at the road : This is to point out hazards such as pot holes, manhole covers etc. PLEASE copy this signal, it stops accidents and punctures
  • Arm out left or right : Everyone in the pack needs to indicate when turning left or right
  • Left arm signaling behind back : Signal the cyclist is about to move out into the road, e.g. to pass a parked car, to go round debris in the road.
